Joining the Orchestra
Musical Standard
The Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the leading amateur orchestras, and is large enough to perform the biggest and most challenging of romantic classical works. Accordingly we expect high standards of our members. Players will need to be at or close to Grade 8 standard as a minimum if they are to tackle some of the repertoire without undue difficulty.
Getting Acquainted
If you are interested in joining as a permanent member of the orchestra, one of the best ways of getting acquainted is to join us for rehearsals. We hold rehearsals on Monday evenings from 7 o'clock p.m. at the Worthing Assembly Hall. It is advisable to speak to our Chairman Beverley D'Orsaneo prior to doing so as we are occasionally obliged to rehearse in the Gordon Room.
If you know a member of the orchestra they can advise you on being a member, on the ethos and standard required, on potential vacancies, and perhaps arrange an introduction.
Our Principals
Many of our principal players have been with us for many years, are very experienced players and are well placed to offer advice.
